When this post goes live, I will hopefully be on a train heading to The Baby Show with my friend and bump buddy Jennie. Today is the first day of a super busy baby themed weekend in which I hope to not only meet some fab independent brands, pick up some brilliant products for baby & me but to also spend a significant chunk preparing our home for our little girl’s arrival. A big part of that will be decorating our bedroom and her nursery.
From early on in my pregnancy I knew I wanted it to be sky themed, with clouds and stars and hot air balloons. Some of my favourite childhood memories are of visiting the Hot Air Balloon festival on the racecourse just behind where my Nan used to live and I really love the thought of having a little bit those treasured times to be reflected in our daughters room.
We will be painting the walls in whites and pinks and greys and adding these beautiful cloud wall stickers from The Modern Nursery .
I’ve had my eye on one of these gorgeous handmade cot mobiles from Love Lottie Textiles and Furnishings and for only £25 I think this might just fall into my shopping basket in no time! I’d like to make a cosy corner in her room where we can read stories and I can do the majority of the night feeds without disturbing Sean too much on work days. Ideally I would really love a nursing chair like this one from Mothercare, but I don’t think we’re going to have the budget, so we will likely use Sean’s IKEA chair for the first few months. I am going to order these cute cushions from the Skandi Kids range at Sass & Belle and hang some of these cotton ball fairy lights around the window.
We have ordered the 4Baby Classic Cot Bed from online4baby and are torn between the Luxury Maxi Air Cool cot bed safety mattress which can be added to the cot package and the PurFlo Breathable mattress to go inside. In order to save space but also have a suitable surface to change her out of reach of Alfie, we are going to order the 4Baby Cot Top Changer from the same collection as the cot and top it with a wipe clean changing mat.
Sean’s brother is a very talented carpenter and he has offered to make us some cloud book shelves like these ones I found on How to Nest For Less.
We are going to upcycle two sets of small chest of drawers that my Mum has given us and paint the wooden storage cube unit we already have white where store the majority of her clothes and changing bits. I’ve got some small wooden crates too which I am going to paint white and pop her toys etc in.
We’re also on the look out for a rug to cover the hideous carpet and some pretty prints and Sean is working on a mural to fit the theme to hang on the wall. And then I think her room will be complete…
Where do you find your nursery inspiration?
